Significant flooding has hit Birmingham as torrential thunderstorms and heavy rain sweep across large parts of England and Wales on Thursday. West Midlands Fire Service confirmed that six crews, supported by police and Birmingham City Council, were deployed to deal with significant flooding in the Perry Barr area after a flood warning was issued due to rising river levels.

Two yellow thunderstorm warnings have been declared for Thursday. One warning covers London and the South East until 8am, while the second warning spans Wales and much of England from 5am until 10pm. Forecasters warn that the storms threaten to cause severe disruption, transport delays, large hail, flash flooding, and power cuts.

Emergency services have urged residents to avoid the affected areas where possible, and Birmingham City Council advised people to take care and avoid walking, cycling, or driving through flood water.
