Following the passing of country music legend and Tennessee icon Dolly Parton, fans have been leaving flowers, handwritten remembrances, and other tributes at de facto memorial sites around Nashville and the surrounding area.

In the wake of her death, Dolly Parton's sister, Stella Parton, shared in a Facebook post that the singer had offered to try experimental drugs if there was no hope in her cancer battle, in an effort to help others in the future. Stella Parton wrote that her sister was always thinking of others and urged people to honor her legacy by showing more kindness, lifting others up, and giving more time and resources.

Dolly Parton was widely recognized during her life for her extensive philanthropy. Through the Dollywood Foundation, founded in 1988, she worked to improve education in her hometown, later expanded those efforts by covering higher-education costs for Dollywood employees, and created the Imagination Library to provide free books to young children. In 2020, she also donated $1 million to Vanderbilt University's COVID-19 research.
