Oklahoma Democrats headed to the polls Tuesday to choose their U.S. Senate nominee in a runoff election between nurse N'Kiyla Jasmine Thomas and attorney Jim Priest. Both candidates are political neophytes who advanced from a five-way Democratic primary in June.

During the initial primary, Thomas secured the most votes with just over 45 percent, while Priest received just under 24 percent. Because Thomas did not reach the majority threshold required to avoid a runoff, the two faced each other on Tuesday to determine the party nod.

Following the runoff, the Democratic nomination went to Thomas, who has vowed to impeach Donald Trump within her first 100 days in office. She now advances to face Republican Rep. Kevin Hern in the general election this fall.
