Strong thunderstorms swept across New York City, New Jersey, and other parts of the Tri-State area on Thursday evening, prompting the National Weather Service to issue multiple severe weather, flash flood, and tornado warnings. The fast-moving severe weather brought heavy downpours and gusty winds to the region.

In New Jersey, severe weather warnings were issued in at least 10 counties, including a tornado warning for parts of Atlantic County that was set to expire at 5:15 p.m. There were no immediate reports of a funnel cloud on the ground. Flash flood warnings were also posted for parts of South Jersey after 1 to 3 inches of rain fell, with warnings scheduled to continue through 8:45 p.m.

A flood watch remained in effect for much of the Tri-State area, including New York City, alongside a severe thunderstorm watch for parts of New Jersey until 10:00 p.m. Chief Meteorologist Lee Goldberg reported that New York City and surrounding areas could see more than three inches of rainfall between Thursday afternoon and early Friday. Heavy rainfall caused localized flooding, leading drivers to navigate flooded streets in East Meadow on Long Island.
