Heavy rainfall struck Delhi and the National Capital Region early Sunday morning, bringing significant relief from humid heat while causing waterlogging and traffic jams in various areas. Dark clouds covered Noida and Ghaziabad, forcing motorists to drive with their headlights on during daylight hours.

The India Meteorological Department issued heavy rain and thunderstorm alerts for 17 states, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jammu and Kashmir, with winds expected to reach speeds up to 65 kilometers per hour. In Uttar Pradesh, monsoon activity intensified due to a cyclonic circulation and low-pressure area originating from the Bay of Bengal. The weather department warned of heavy downpours in eastern districts and Bundelkhand, while western parts of the state might remain relatively calm with persisting humidity.

Meteorological updates indicate that active monsoon conditions and shifting trough lines across central and eastern India could benefit certain kharif crops like paddy, though agricultural experts warn that excess water accumulation might pose risks to maize, soybean, and vegetable cultivation in low-lying fields.
