A thunderstorm warning is in force across England and Wales on Thursday, bringing the threat of large hail, flash flooding, and travel disruption. The Met Office issued fresh warnings as torrential thunderstorms and heavy rain move across large parts of the region, threatening transport delays and power cuts.

Birmingham was hit by significant flooding on Thursday morning, prompting emergency responses. West Midlands Fire Service deployed six crews, supported by police and council teams, to tackle flooding affecting Curbar Road, Thornbridge Avenue, and Haddon Road after a severe flood warning for Perry Brook in Perry Barr. Residents were urged to avoid walking, cycling, or driving through floodwater.

The first Met Office warning began at 02:00 BST for south-east England, followed by a second warning at 06:00 BST covering a wider area until 22:00 BST. Forecasters reported that the storms could become slow-moving in the afternoon and evening, with the wettest areas potentially seeing up to 75mm of rain alongside lightning, gusty winds, and humid conditions. Spells of rain and windy weather are set to continue over the bank holiday weekend.
