Two Maine fishermen landed a massive 770-pound, 110-inch bluefin tuna while fishing in Casco Bay. Third-generation fisherman Cody Scott of West Point and his brother-in-law, Wade Tuttle of Richmond, hooked the giant fish aboard the F/V Elizabeth A. The catch required a struggle lasting more than two hours before the crew brought the massive bluefin to the boat side.

Meanwhile, commercial catches of Atlantic bluefin tuna have also been reported off the coast of Yorkshire in the United Kingdom for the first time in over six decades. A crew aboard The Dominator landed a 338kg specimen about 10 miles from Whitby, followed by a second catch weighing slightly less the next day. Researchers from the University of Exeter noted that the migratory species had been absent from the North Sea since the 1960s due to overfishing and the depletion of herring shoals.

Marine conservationists have lauded the return of the giant fish to UK waters as a success story, noting that increased herring numbers have aided the comeback. While historical records indicate a 851lb British record set near Whitby in 1933, the recent Yorkshire catches mark a significant return to regional waters.
