The Dallas Mavericks announced Friday that they are buying out the final year of guard Klay Thompson's contract. Thompson is expected to sign with the Miami Heat after he clears waivers.

The move follows a diminished season for the veteran player. After starting just seven games, coach Jason Kidd shifted Thompson to the bench midway through the year, departing from the starting spot promised during the 2024 offseason. In 69 appearances, Thompson averaged 11.7 points while recording career lows in overall field-goal percentage at 39.3 and three-point percentage at 38.3.
